The Attic | Student Ministry

The Attic is the Student Ministry at First Christian Church in Fairfield, IL. In The Attic, we say that we are called to know, show, and go. We are teaching students to better know what they believe and why they believe it. We are training students to show what they believe. We are equipping students to go and tell others about their belief. The aim of this ministry is to ensure that students know, show, and go way beyond the years in middle school and high school. The teaching and practices taught will aim to equip them for their years of school and beyond.

Meet Our Student Minister

Kyle started his employment with FCC in July 2023. He comes to us following a two year residency at Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Kyle married his wife, Kassidy, in April 2024. Both Kyle and Kassidy desire for the LORD to be shared throughout the youth in the community.

The Attic Nights

The Attic Nights is our weekly youth group that gathers on Sunday nights from 5:30-7:00. We focus on preaching the Bible and teaching Biblical principles to your students as well as building relationships as we grow in Christ together! The Attic is a place where your students can come experience Christ, have fellowship with other students their age, and find community! Our structure of each youth group consists of games, worship, and a sermon. We want your students to know Christ personally, show Him in their lives, and go spread the gospel. On these nights, we aim to help deepen the faith of these students as well as prepare them to be ambassadors of Christ until they reach the end of their race.

Weekly Gatherings

Student Bible Study

During Bible Study, at 9:00 on Sunday mornings, we focus on helping students see the overarching story of Scripture and how their story fits into God’s story. They get to investigate key characters and concepts and see what the Gospel is and how it courses throughout all of Scripture. Our hope is for your teenager to become a life-long learner and to approach God’s word with awe and wonder every time.

Taco Tuesday

Taco Tuesday started back in 1994 with a handful of students in the youth pastor parsonage and now has grown to over 100 high school students coming every Tuesday to grab some delicious tacos by our awesome Taco Tuesday volunteers! Taco Tuesday is a chance for the student ministry to reach high school students by providing them with a free meal, reminding them of Christ’s love, and creating a positive experience where they will be encouraged and have fun! Taco Tuesday is every Tuesday during high school lunch hours when school is in session.

Devo & Donuts

Devo & Donuts is every Wednesday morning at 7:30am during the school year! Donuts are eaten and a short devotion is shared before the students head off to school! Devo & Donuts is for both middle and high school students.

Connection Groups

Connection Groups is what the Attic is doing on our Wednesday nights upstairs from 6:30-7:30. Typically, dinner will be served at 5:45. The goal of these groups is for students to connect in three ways: To the church, to the Scripture and to the LORD. The way this is done is by having consistent adult leaders every time they meet for these groups and reach out to them throughout the week. Each semester, these groups will study at least one whole book of the Bible together. They will keep others accountable in their reading and will be able to get together to share their thoughts and discuss. Both of these things along with prayer will help students ultimately grow closer to the LORD.
